Black Berkey Primer

Fully prime the Black Berkey Filters without a faucet or water pressure. This primer tool can saturate the filters simply using hand power. A great alternative priming method. Some faucets are too large in diameter for the Prime Rite, and some sinks are too shallow for the filters to fit. The Black Berkey Primer is the solution for priming filters!

Prime or Purge

Use this to prime (saturate) or to purge (back-flush) the Black Berkey Filters. Force air through the interior of the filter instead of water to clean out the micropores of the carbon filter. Purging the Black Berkey Filters clears the pores of debris that may accumulate from use or poor-quality source water. It can also dry out the filters for long-term storage quickly.

Black Berkey Primer FAQs

 1. How does the Black Berkey Primer work? Watch Video

This Berkey Primer creates a pressure gradient that draws water into the center of the attached filter. Water will come out of the primer when the filter is completely saturated.

 2. Why do you need a Black Berkey Primer?

An alternative method for priming the filters offers a solution who struggle with using the Priming Button, the Prime Rite, or the soaking method. If packing up and storing filters is frequent, waiting for the filters to dry completely can be time-cumbersome. This primer tool also purges or dries out filters--much quicker than letting them air dry.

 3. How to clean and store the Black Berkey Primer?

Use a mild dish soap and warm water solution to run through all components of the primer. Thoroughly rinse all parts and pieces and let fully dry before storing. Keep out of direct sunlight for long periods of time. Best if stored in a cool, dark, dry area.

 4. Will the Black Berkey Primer work with non-Berkey filters?

No, it is specifically designed for use with Black Berkey Filters.

 5. Where is the Black Berkey Primer made?

Yes, 100% is made in the USA. It is manufactured as well as assembled in the United States.
