How to store your Berkey? What to do if you're not going to use your Berkey for a period of time such as a weekend, a few weeks, or even a few year. The recommended procedures to keep your Berkey in great shape while you're not using it everyday. If you're not going to use your Berkey for less than three days there is no need to do anything to it. You have three options for storing your filters if you're going to be gone for a few weeks. The filters can be wet, then dried out, stored for years, then be used again. Store the filters in a temperature controlled, dry place away from strong odors or fragrances. *The Fluoride Filters cannot be stored for longer than two weeks.

Aluminum Oxide used to Remove Fluoride

The optional, add-on white Fluoride Filters do contain activated alumina, also known as the compound aluminum oxide. Activated alumina is a compound of aluminum and oxygen (Al₂O₃). It is vastly different from the element aluminum. Activated alumina is not water soluble, chemically inert, and not associated with negative health affects. Examples of gem-quality aluminum oxide compounds are sapphires and rubies. Activated Alumina is an EPA-approved method of fluoride removal.

What is an anti-airlock clip?

The anti-airlock clip is a special tool for Berkey stainless steel systems to prevent an air lock or vacuum seal. This is one way to solve the problem of slow or no flow. It's a small metal clip that attaches to the lip of the lower chamber. The upper and lower chambers can fit so snuggly together that they create a vacuum seal or air bubble in the lower chamber which prevents water from flowing.

My Berkey is Leaking! How to refill your Berkey so it doesn't leak.

Only fill the upper chamber when the lower chamber is empty. If you see what coming down the side of the system that's an indicator that your Berkey has been overfilled, causing it to spill over. Berkey water filter systems are gravity fed. That means the water from the upper chamber flows down into the lower chamber. If there is already water in the lower chamber and the upper chamber is filled to the top, there is no where for that water to go except out.

Can Berkey water be used for CPAP machines, Fish Tanks, or Baby Formula?

There are a few things that we do not recommend using Berkey water for, mainly for the reason that Berkeys do not remove minerals. For machines (example: CPAP machines) that use water, the minerals can build up and then cause damage. If something specifically calls for distilled water, it's best to double-check before using Berkey water.

We get a good chuckle from all the different ways we've seen our name misspelled and mispronounced. Just for fun, here's a list of our top favorite Berkey misspellings. We don’t get offended here at Berkey Filters headquarters when people misspell our brand. After-all, we’re not quite a household name (our die-hard fans sort of like it that way). Real vs. Fake Berkey

New logo on Berkey systems! A cleaner, more simplified Berkey logo is making its way on the production line. New systems will don a rectangle neatly encapsulating Berkey®.  A different, unfamiliar logo is usually a cause for suspension and should raise questions about the authenticity of a product. In this case, the new logo is just a re-branding. One way to ensure you're getting the real deal verify that where you're buying your Berkey from is an Authorized Berkey Dealer. Be sure to look for the Authorized Berkey® Dealer Badge when shopping.
